This story was definitely a slow burn, but worth it to me. I was starting to piece things together little by little throughout the story. The ending is what really put it over the top. Definitely not what I expected. I enjoyed this story as it gave off the same vibe as the movie “Parasite.”

I gave this book a four-star rating because while I would recommend it to a friend, I will not be reading it again.

This story follows Juno, a retired therapist, and Winnie, a mother and wife, as they tell the story of a family's unraveling. Juno attempts to make sense of the Crouch family through not entirely ethical means, even though she's gotten into trouble before from becoming too involved in others' lives. Juno begins to analyze the Crouches and dig up secrets, weaving her own stories about the path.

Winnie struggles to hold her marriage together and maintain a good relationship with her son, despite her past and her family obligations. Her father's passing created a strained family life in which Winnie's twin creates dysfunction. Winnie's attempts to achieve balance and the facade of perfection greatly influence the plot.

The story also does a wonderful job of characterization, especially when it comes to Juno. Through an exploration of her past life and how she interacts with the Crouches in this book, I found myself re-evaluating some questions I thought I knew the answers to. Though Juno definitely behaves immorally in this story, I thought that her story ended well and was very thought-provoking.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and have already suggested it to a friend. If you're looking for a thriller with a lot of plot threads to keep track of, this book might be for you. It features a plethora of characters and relationships that evolve quickly, along with an unexpected ending. This book is perfect for passing the time on a long drive as the action keeps coming and the plot moves along quickly.

Decent thriller, solid plot though a bit far fetched. Kept me reading
