Her Unexpected Courtship by Megan Walker

This had all the parts of a five star read for me, but I just didn’t like the heroine in this book. She was supposed to come across as forward thinking, but was mostly just judgmental and had quite an inflated opinion of herself.

I really love Megan Walker’s writing and Lakeshire Park is one of my all time favorite regencies, so perhaps if this wasn’t a novella and I had more time to get to know Isabel and more time for their relationship to develop, I would have liked her better. She went from judging him to loving him so quickly… again I realize it was a short book, but it just didn’t work for me.

There were some great moments, just as I would expect from the author, and I liked Lucas a lot. I also enjoyed the fact that he loved her from the beginning! That doesn’t happen often and was so sweet. I would love to see this turned into a full length book so that Isabel can more gradually fall for Lucas as she comes to know him. It just felt too rushed.

This book is so good! Isabel lost her father 2 years ago and she treasures her horse Aurora as she had many rides with her father. Now her horse is getting older and her brother who gambled a lot, wants to get rid of her horse. She strikes up a bargain to entertain his friend Lucas. But Isabel knows him, he’s friends with her brother so clearly he’s not the type to marry.

This is just too cute. Isabel is portrayed exactly as I expected based on her cameo appearances in the first two novellas in this "Sisterhood of the Traveling Bracelet" (I probably won't stop calling it that).
Isabel is outspoken and goes above and beyond for those she loves. I adore an independent bluestocking. She writes off relationship possibilities so easily. And Lucas... He is probably one of the best leading men I've read about in a little bit. I love when the man pines for the woman with a serious case of unrequited love, as it seems to be opposite, typically.
These novellas can be read as standalones, but I've enjoyed reading them in order. The lead in to Marah's story has me intrigued!
I received a copy from the author. All thoughts in this review are my own.

This was a quick, satisfying, and absolutely adorable read. I loved the hero and heroine, but I loved them TOGETHER more than anything! Their relationship was sweet and fun and that ending was to die for! Another fantastic installment in the series!

Megan you have done it again.

Her Unexpected Courtship was the perfect regency novella. Full of wit, a strong female lead, and handsome supporting suitor. Isabelle wants more out of her life than to be her husbands property, Lucas just wants Isabelle. The two characters honestly are so meant for each other right from the start it was so fun to see them start to unravel their misconceptions and learn that love was right in front of them all along.

This for some reason had me thinking of "Far From the Madding Crowd"... A strong female...tries to convince this obviously extremely handsome and perfectly loyal gentleman that she isn't right for him. Lucas' consistent character and willingness to prove her wrong made this all the more endearing. Seriously friends, this is a book not to be missed...you'll read it in a single sitting because it's honestly such a beautiful, funny and romantic delight.
