4.5 stars! I love Asa and Royal, they made a lovely couple that really brought the best out in each other. The ending wedding scene was very sweet, and even though I haven't read the first two books in the series, it was amazing to see where everyone's lives were headed. I did find the secret to be a little bit of unneeded drama. I also don't know how I feel about Royal's choice. I hope Avett gets some kind of happy ending too. I felt so much for her.
Oh Asa, you hot sexy man you. Thank you for getting your crap together and giving Royal a chance. You two blew this book up! I loved that we get to see what's going on with the other characters from the past 5 books. The whole group....great people. The only thing I had a wee bit of trouble with was the beginning, it was kind of slow. It took me a few to get into it, but once I did, it was great. There was just a lot of internal dialogue, I'm more of a dialog girl. But that's just me.
So sad that this great series is over. I know she said she was going to write a new one with the side characters, so I'm really looking forward to that. Such a great series, a total must read!

Ahhh I am so sad that this is the end of the Marked Men. But damn this was a ride I was so glad to be apart of. I FREAKING LOVE Asa. He is one of my favorite boys out of this series. A true redemption story. I loved every single second of his and Royal's ride. She is so feisty and is exactly what Asa needs to believe in himself. Just like all of her other books Jay did not fail to bring me to my knees with these boys. Well done Jay, well done.
My best friend won an ARC of Asa at Austin BookFest 2015, and she let me borrow it to read it first since I read super fast.
Jay Crownover never disappoints!!! I blew through this book, and it was amazing!!!!! I wanted to cry when I finished it, because no more Marked Men, but I really liked how she wrapped everything up so you knew where everyone was going at series end.
My only issue was that she kind of left the final secret between Asa and Royal unresolved. I know Royal essentially knew, but she never told him that, and he was apparently okay with her never knowing. That didn't totally sit right with me, but that's just because I could never be as accepting and good at letting things go as Royal. I feel like she would have been relatively understanding of the situation had it been explained to her, but Asa never gave her the chance.
Still, absolutely amazing!!!! Can't wait for Saints of Denver!!!

Another series over.... Yeah, I'm sad... But we have a spin off!!!
I have no idea when Asa became my favorite. Must be while reading this book. I adore tortured souls who think there's no way out. And even more those who show them that there is.
I pictured Asa like a blond god. Not like that guy who's on the other cover. He has a black hair for god's sake! Totally not how I imagined him. But lady on this cover is totally like Royal I imagined ^^
The break up reason was all kinds of stupid. I mean, confront your mom finally! She can't keep doing that!!!
The list of my favorite Marked Men changed with every book, but this is the final one: Asa, Nash, Rule, Rowdy, Rome and Jet. Sorry Jet, I usually adore rocker dudes but I don't like you very much...
So, I'm out. Patiently waiting for the spin off. Well not so patiently, but, yeah... :D

i love Asa. he is a brooding individual that thinks he is always in trouble. he falls for the cop even though he told himself that he would never date a cop. this book rides the emotional roller coaster. i think this the last book in the series but it was a very good way to end the series.
Loved this last book! A very fitting ending to what has become one of my favorite series.
I'm a huge Jay Crownover fan, I have yet to read a book of hers that I haven't liked. I've read this entire series and from the moment I read Rule I've loved these Marked Men. For a long time Rule and Nash were vying for the top spot as my favorite but now...the two will have to vie for the second spot because Asa is by far my favorite. I was intrigued by Asa the minute I was introduced to him in Jet's story. There was just something about this broken soul that made me want to learn more about him. I really hoped he would get his own book and each time I read a book and he was mentioned I knew Jay wouldn't let me down.
How could you not love this man that thinks he's just a shell of a man, that thinks he's done so much wrong that he could never be anyone's Mr. Right? So vulnerable, so desperate to be loved. Sigh....ASA.
Okay so it's not all about Asa, there's also Royal. Sex cop with a few issues of her own. She's had her sights set on Asa for awhile and she's on a mission to have him. I love how she openly pursued him and didn't stop until she got him.
At first I wasn't sure Royal was a good fit for Asa but what do you know...Jay knew what she was doing. These two were perfect for each other! I loved their chemistry, I loved how they called each other on their BS and I loved how Asa was willing to lose Royal to protect her and I loved how Royal wouldn't give up on him. How she trusted him enough be with him knowing he was keeping a secret from her. As much as I love them, Rule and Shaw; Nash and Saint; Jet and Ayden; Rome and Cora, Rowdy and Salem have nothing on Asa and Royal.
Sad to see this series come to a close but I was happy to read that some other characters would be a part of a new series.

First off I want to say that this has a totally different feel from previous 5. It's more serious and somber.
Here we have Royal who is described as bubbly and lively. Then we have Asa who is said to be self destructive and manipulative. Yet we have a story where they are pretty much acting the opposite way of what we knew them to be.
Royal is in a slump because her best friend and partner was injured on the job and she feels responsible for it. As if there were something she could have done or should have to prevent Dom from being hurt. She is on a kick where she NEEDS the thrill of Asa. She wants the risk of him hoping it will make her feel something other than self loathing and guilt.
Asa is the king of self loathing after he died and came back. He is all about being a better man without acknowledging it himself. He wants to be the best version of himself for Ayden, his sister, but is constantly tearing himself down. Making sure Royal knows he's a horrible man.
Asa tells Royal everything he's done wrong in the hopes she'll believe him and leave for her own good. Only she does believe him and it makes her stay. He is presenting himself exactly for what he is and she appreciates that. As a cop, she needs truth. She won't stand for lies. But she also wont stand for the games Asa is trying to play with her. She knows and see what she wants but can't understand why Asa doesn't see that.
As the story progresses, Asa becomes more of a man who is letting his past be his past. Royal is pulling him out from his ghosts but he expects the ball to drop no matter what. When it does, he becomes the man who walks away because he loves the other person so much he would rather be the bad guy than tear apart a different kind of love for Royal.
Its a constant battle with Asa and himself. He is always making himself to be the bad guy so when he starts pulling his head out of his ass it's because he lost the one thing he loves. Royal. He's keeping a secret he refuses to share with her, only it's nothing that shines a bad light on him.
I dont know how a couple can break up over a secret and get back together without it ever being revealed outright. Royal has clues to what it pertains to but will allow Asa this one secret. I can see how it is better left quiet but I'm the kind of person who'd rather have it out in the open.
Overall this was an enjoyable read. It focuses on these two with brief glimpses of the Marked Men we've come to love. (although id love to have Rowdy more involved in this as he was my favorite).
