I’m having such a hard time with rating this book. On one hand, the first 2/3 of the book was hard to get through and the last 1/3 was emotional and made me actually feel something for the character. On the other hand, the last third of the book is where I started empathizing with the main character in particular and his struggles, and then the story ends with him continuing to struggle. It’s hard to say if there was a lot of positive character development. I think he became more aware of himself and his own problems by reflecting on Liza’s issues and seeing himself in them. I liked that whole realization he had and I found it fascinating. But again, the story abruptly ends and I’m left picking up the pieces to figure out what’s going on. Not to mention that the other storyline was completely abandoned as a whole. I would rate it more than 3 stars because I like it more than the average book, but I don’t think I can give it a full 4. I already want to reread it again though to get a better idea of how the monologue of Part 1 relates to Part 2 after now knowing the story of Part 2.

I don’t think this is good for a casual read, unfortunately. I will come back to it when I have a physical copy, a pen ,a highlighter and a Literature professor!
