I almost gave up on this with how slow the first half was but I'm glad I pulled through to the end. My mind wandered a lot listening to this with how much backstory was thrown at the beginning and how it didn't really feel like it was going much of anywhere until the mid point. The audio reader for this was also painfully slow, but thankfully playback programs have the ability to bump the speed up because otherwise I would not have been able to listen to this.
The descriptions in here were beautiful and the actual fairy tale portion pretty interesting but it felt like a lot to get through to get to that point. I'm not sure if I'll actually pick up the next or not--I feel like this was on the overhyped side of things for me.

The Bear and the Nightingale masterfully weaves Russian folklore into a mesmerizing tale. While the plot follows a more meandering, fairy tale-like pace, the true magic lies in the beautifully crafted characters and the immersive. The story feels authentically like an old folk tale being shared around a winter hearth. However, the ending was somewhat disappointing, feeling rushed and lacking emotional impact.

I waited so long to read this series, and I’m so glad I finally got to it. This first book was so cozy and beautifully written and easy to get sucked into. I’m looking forward to finishing the rest of the series soon!
