Een sprookjesachtig boek die ik, als ik het laat afhangen van de sfeer, beter met kerst had kunnen lezen. Origineel en interessant (Russische folklore zit erin verwerkt), wel vond ik de stijl in de loop van het boek wat afzwakken.

It took me a while to get into it, but once I did I just kept thinking about it. It's like a fairy tale, but with no clear good vs. evil. Konstantin and Anna Ivanovna are really good examples of this. I loved the elements of folklore and even the scary parts with the upyr. I can see why people like it and I look forward to continuing the trilogy.

I’m conflicted about how I feel with this book. It wasn’t what I was expecting, but I neither disliked or liked it exactly. It does have some Spirited Away vibes to it which was nice but other than that I can’t really say that I enjoyed it
