Great winter read, and I'll definitely pick up the second. I enjoyed the tie-in to Russian Folklore, and the setting felt grounded in real history. I think the pace dragged at times, which is why I've given it a four rather than a five, but it was still an enjoyable read overall!

felt like i was in the fairytale. such lyrical, beautiful writing

So here is a book that has been on my tbr for a very long time.

I am so glad that I finally got around to reading it because it was such a treasure!

If you are looking for a book to cosy up with in these cold months then I can highly recommend this one!

It really is a tale that you can get lost in. There is magic, Russian folklore, beautiful world-building and excellent character development. The main character Vasiya is wild, strong and completely lovable. I adored reading about her adventures and watching her grow and come into herself.

Vasiya does what she wants to do and not what is expected of her and I just love that in a character!

The writing is very beautiful and atmospheric. The fact that it is set in the Wilderness of Russia is also something I really liked as it was fun to learn about the history and culture.

It was also so vivid in its writing that at points I was actually shivering imagining how cold it must have been!

I was also really happy to find out that this was part of a trilogy and have already put the next two books on my holds list at the library.

Really enjoyed this take on folklore. Didn't want to the story to end.
