This one was just meh for me. I enjoyed the main characters enough, but I don't get much from the cosplay world. I also think I missed a big part in the audiobook (darn my daydreaming) where the initial conflict happened because I just don't remember how or why the characters broke up. I did like the evolution of each of the boys' relationships with their parents though.

Can we rate books 6/5 on here? 10/5? Whatever the equivalent of “better than best” would be, Be Dazzled is it.

This book is queer, it’s fun, it has a one-of-a-kind voice (just like the author himself), and is surprisingly emotional! You will laugh, you probably will laugh out LOUD, and you may cry... but ultimately, you’ll get the urge to immediately go buy some fabric and bedazzle something.

Buy Be Dazzled, read it, stop in the middle of the page to text your friends about it, then convince them to buy it 12 pages later because you’ve sent at least 3 texts about it in the span of 20 minutes. ✨

Rupaul’s drag race cross Comic-Con with some sequins and a love/hate relationships!

The book flips between present day and the beginning of Raffy and Luca’s friendship turned instant love affair. Raffy know how he is and he owns the runway. He is known for his passion of bedazzling cosplay outfits on his social media. Luca walks into his world, the bi soccer player who wants Raffy yet isn’t ready to be with him in front of the world.

We find out quite quickly that the two needed on awful terms and are now running against each other at the biggest cosplay completion. As the competition going on get a parallel timeline on how they relationship started and ended. Building the story and characters along the way. Luca isn’t the only one fighting for his family to approve of his hobby, Raffy’s mother doesn’t take his arts and crafts seriously yet all he wants is her approval.

When the competition goes in another direction the two are left partnerless in the final round with their only option working together to win. Can they work together and put their feeling and heartbreak aside to win?

Omg I loved this books!!! It covers young adult themes of finding yourself, being authentic and having the courage to be yourself! It’s a big Be Dazzled yes from me!!

Thank you so very much to @netgalley & @sourcebooks giving me the opportunity to review this dreamy book. Highly recommend reading this love story, @ryanlasala thank you for this adorably, geeky, queer, coming of age power novel.

Raffy is the king of cosplay. He has his own stream, his personal cosplay channel and enough loyalty points at Craft Club to bankroll any project. The only thing threatening his crown is his exboyfriend Luca, against whom he must compete at the biggest Cosplay Convention in the state. Luca who just stole Raffy's idea.

Also his mother Evie who is snobbish and condescending about arts and crafts, who doesn't support Raffy at all and also Raffy himself and his toxic self absorption and project anxiety. So, can Raffy the Craft King get it all together to win the competition? After having his heart figuratively stomped on, will he care enough to compete?

I have not flown through a book like that in a long time. I loved it. Absolutely loved it. They didn't have rom-com books like this when I was a teenager (or at least I couldn't find them) and I'm so glad they have these now.

Such a cute and fun read. And now I might even want to go to a con

(Mini-Review) I’m sitting here with the biggest smile on my face - Ryan La Sala, what a book! I loved Raffy so, so much! Can we give it up for what an amazing, unapologetically queer main character he is? I loved how passionate he was about his art - while yes, this is a romance (& an adorable one, at that), the themes of sticking with what you’re passionate about & allowing your creativity to soar really struck the biggest chords with me. To use some of the lingo, I shipped Luca & Raffy so much! While they had some issues between them, I loved how supportive Luca was of Raffy’s cosplay & how much Raffy played a hand in helping Luca discover & love his true self. I could go on & on about how much I loved this, but I’ll end by saying you should all go out & preorder this ASAP! I can’t think of a better way to get your 2021 started than by joining Luca & Raffy for some bedazzling - got to go get that Sea Foam Dream #6!
