interesting to see so many different interpretations of such a tiny book. for me it’s a story of extremes: give too much and there’ll be nothing left of you. demand too much and you’ll find yourself unable to appreciate what you already have. either way, set boundaries and make them clear.

An excellent simple book for young children to read with the parents. It was one the firste books I remember reading.

What a sweet and sad children's story. Someday I'm determined to build my own children's books arsenal - and this would definitely be among them. :)

This is me as an adult looking at this: I don't like how the child takes-takes-takes and tree gives-gives-gives. If it was an analogy to parenthood, it's sad that the child never gave back. If it's an analogy of sex, the male is always taking from the female. If it's about society, people never give back. Nature. Basically this is me saying I don't like this books because you have givers and you have takers, and the takers don't think twice about what the givers give up or sacrifice. You give until you die and the takers don't care. You give until you have nothing left, and the takers don't care. For me, this could be a book for kids if you teach them the consequences of always taking and always giving. You need to be in the middle. Unfortunately, I think growing up people didn't see it as that, only that there was an overarching presence that is always willing to give them something.

“I wish that I could give you something... but I have nothing left...”

I have strong feelings but I’ll leave them be for another time. Wishing the worst for the boy 🤍
