As most of you know I love Jay Kristoff and this series has been my 2nd favourite of his, but as much as I loved this book it wasn't what I wanted it to be. Yes the best character Lemon Fresh ARC was amazing from Side kick to Hero, but I was more interested in her story then I was Eve. Lemons story felt slightly rushed in area, and details were lost. Plus the ending was too neat and tidy which I didn't thing this book would have as I honestly thought it would have a darker ending then happily ever after.

But it's still a good book just wanted it to be darker I guess

This was an excellent conclusion to an awesome series! I feel like these books are very unique and stand apart in a sea of YA books that are all kind of the same. This dystopian version of the USA (which it literally took me until the last chapter of the last book to realize that's what characters meant when they were saying "Yousay") is unlike anything I've read before. It's an utter wasteland controlled by two big bad corporations and there are cyborgs and robots and of course the Lifelikes who are not quite machine but not quite human either.

THE CHARACTERS are amazing. Especially Lemon. Lemon is the literal best and I love her so so much.

She hadn't asked for any of this. She never wanted it. She was supposed to be the comedy relief. She was the sidekick in someone else's story. For all her sass, all her front, Miss Lemon Fresh never felt big or important enough to be anyone's hero.

I just love that the first book sets up Eve to be the main character, with Lemon - and Cricket too - set up to be the sidekick/comic relief. And then the second and third books totally take them and push them into the spotlight and make them the main characters. It was such an awesome dynamic and Lemon came to be my absolute favorite throughout this series.

One thing I loved specifically about this book is that we get way more insight into BioMaas and Daedalus. We got glimpses of them in the first two books, but instead of just being the two Big Bads against each other, this book gives us an inside look at what makes them unique and what they are really fighting for. BioMaas especially was SUPER interesting and SUPER creepy. I love that the first book gave us backstory on the Lifelikes and the different types of bots, the second book focused more on the deviates and the Brotherhood, and this one gave us a lot of info on the corps. It made for such well-rounded world-building.

Another thing I loved about the series as a whole is that there's no clear "good side" and "bad side." There are main characters on both sides, and there were moments where I kinda understood both points of view. I felt like this was a really unique concept in YA, because it's usually the main characters fighting against the "big evil." This story was full of gray areas.

Another thing I found refreshing is that while, yes, there are love interests for the various characters, the main focus of this series is definitely not the romance. It's more about friendship, family, and of course a lot of action.

Anyway, [a:Jay Kristoff|4735144|Jay Kristoff|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1310187120p2/4735144.jpg] is seriously one of my favorite authors ever. While I don't think this series will ever live up in my mind to [b:Illuminae|23395680|Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1)|Amie Kaufman|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1443433956l/23395680._SY75_.jpg|26653661] or [b:Aurora Rising|30075662|Aurora Rising (The Aurora Cycle, #1)|Amie Kaufman|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1560056657l/30075662._SY75_.jpg|50493990], I absolutely loved reading it and I highly recommend it!

IM SO EXCITED AND NERVOUS TO SEE HOW THIS SERIES ENDS

The PERFECT ending!!!!!

I mean look. I've been so on board with this series ever since I first read Lifelike and this was a deeply satisfying conclusion. It's Fury Road meets X-men in the best way possible. There's not much to say about this that isn't spoilers but just . . I tore through this and was sad when it was over.

Actual rating: 2.5 stars!

I liked book one the best! I think I might have lost interest in the story by the time I read this one!

**I was provided an electronic ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for honest review.**

It is always difficult to discuss books in a series when reviewing them without spoilers, so I will try to keep this brief.

All of the questions I had from the first two books were answered. Nothing fought for came easy. Sacrifices were made along the way. New and old enemies, frenemies, and friends come to bat during this epic conclusion to a cyberpunk-y dystopian series.

Jay Kristoff's writing is on par with his usual, though I will say that I prefer him as an adult writer when solo. I feel like the details that Kristoff includes are some of the things that make him stand out, and his young adult works don't necessarily have the space that allows him to showcase that as well as his adult works. Which resulted in a 4 star rather than 5, so clearly it isn't hurting anything that badly.

I also listened to the first two books in this series via audiobook, and feel like the audiobook really added to my reading experience for those books. I do wish I had also had the audiobook available for this, though it likely would not have changed my overall star rating.

Kristoff is an auto-buy author for me at this point. I'll read whatever the man wants to write, and am so ready to dive into vampires in 2021.
