Unpopular opinion: I didn’t like this book. “Talking true“, in retrospect, I didn’t like the whole series.

The plot gave me constant déjà vu. The parallels to Mr Kristoff’s other series were blatantly obvious; not to mention the parallels to other sci-fi works. The name-calling and racism annoyed me to no end. And yes, there can be too much sarcasm and snark in a novel’s dialogue. I’m not going to make a list of all the things that raised my hackles, it’d put me in lots of “barney” with the hardcore fans.

So, I am leaving this series with a bitter aftertaste that’ll certainly cling to the roof of my mouth for some time.

Missed the five star bc I feel one characters ending wasn't quite earned.

First things first, I adore Lemon Fresh. I really loved how she came into her own during the course of this trilogy. I was really invested in her relationship with Grimm and her friendship with Cricket.

That being said, I did feel a bit deflated after finishing this book. And, that was mostly due to the fact that it felt like a lot of character progression was sacrificed for the big show pieces. Eve’s character went on a bit of a rampaging journey and there was SO MUCH TIME spent on getting the reader to really question her actions and truly believe that she had gone off the rails... because she had. And this book tried to fix all that in one chapter. It wasn’t earned, I didn’t care about her by that point and a few scant paragraphs weren’t enough to change my mind. Also, to spend the majority of the book with Zeke on a mission to save Ana and have a very small amount of time spent on mending the Zeke/Eve relationship only for it to end up where it did, felt very abrupt.

I really enjoyed the big battle scene at the end, Kristoff always executes scenes like this really well. He’s a very cinematic writer and he knows how to do shock and awe with quick fire twists. I often find I’m trying to predict the way one of these scenes is going to go, yet he usually does something unexpected and memorable. This book was no different.

Preacher. Ah, Preacher. What happened? Was he supposed to represent futility or something? I’m open to that idea but for a character that had a lot of potential he just ended up being a bit one-dimensional and fizzled out in this book.

All in all, I had a really fun time with this series and loved the first 2 books. This one, whilst it was still really fast-paced and entertaining it just felt a bit like the passion for the story and characters was no longer there.

4.5 Stars.

I have adored this series from the beginning despite the fact that robots and artificial intelligence are not tropes that I typically enjoy. Kudos to Jay Kristoff for being able to write such a compelling series that I couldn't put it down. He may have opened my eyes to entirely new genre.

This finale to the Lifel1k3 trilogy is a firecracker. The tension kicks in very early on and it's a wild ride from beginning to end. There is a lot of action and a quickly paced plot in this narrative that is both darker and heavier than the two previous books. There is a lot of creativity in the world building. It feels both complex and simple at the same time since everything constructed feels so entirely believable. It's creepy in places, but it completely makes sense.

Aside from the truly gripping action sequences that had me near biting my nails in places, the character development in this novel (and indeed the entire series) is just magnificent. Cricket has been my favorite character to watch from beginning to end. I have a soft place in my heart for him. The character of Eve was so well constructed. Though she does fade away from being a truly central focus in this novel, her character trajectory is captured well and is an incredibly important part of the story. This character arc was both emotional and logical...and both heartbreaking and frustrating to read. Lemon. Oh, Lemon. That girl is tough as nails and so incredibly brilliant and brave. She is one of the most lovable characters in the book and I adored her. Even Faith's character complexity and development was enthralling--blurring the lines of alive and lifelike. So ingeniously written, really.

There were a couple of things with the ending sequences that were left without sufficient information for my liking, but otherwise this was a completely stellar read and the series as a whole was just completely enjoyable. I never would have guessed I'd find myself placing a series about about essentially humanoid robots in my favorite reads of the year, but...here we are. Brilliful.

I loved the first and the second book...and I rated them both five stars.  The third book, I don't know, maybe I wanted more from the ending or maybe it was just me not fully connecting this time.  I'm not sure what is was, but either way, this is a spectacular apocalyptic series.

This series has so many themes and these are just some of what you'll find in this series:  friendship goals, what it means to be alive, free will, what makes a family, it's okay to be different.  These indelibly written themes coupled with characters that are so very likable they feel like friends make this a trilogy that's not to be missed.

Erin Spencer did a fantastic job narrating this series...but it really should have had a full-cast narration.  Why did you not go with a full cast, Mr. Kristoff???  It would have made this series epic.

These books have been so much fun to read! I love the world building and I wish I could know the characters in real life. I'm sad it's over, but I'm also happy to see how it all ends.
Lemon Fresh is by far my favorite character and she plays a big role in this book. She's so strong and fierce, but also vulnerable and just wants someone to love her back. Her character development has been awesome and I enjoyed seeing her come into her own.
On the other hand, Eve just got worse as a character and as this went on I began to hate her. I just couldn't understand her rage at humanity and how she could flip on her friends like that. I wish she had more redemption and her ending didn't feel realistic to me.

The plot moves quickly and I loved all the action parts and bits of humor infused. Grimm especially cracked me up with his odd sayings "I'm Robin Hood" haha. Abraham is a cutie and I'm glad we saw more of him standing up for himself. A couple parts were pretty sad and one in particular felt glossed over. I think it deserved a more attention and bummed me out.

A good ending for a great series, I was totally engrossed in this and it flew by. I can't wait for it to be released to the world!
