As Stephen King mentions in the intro, think Canterbury Tales with a more twisted sense of fantasy.
To me, Sandman is at its best with an overarching tale, so the story within a story approach wasn't as engaging this time. The ending salvaged and otherwise scattered collection.

5 Stars
Short stories within a tale, while sitting at the Inn at the End of the World, in front of a fire. It's storming outside; are those just worlds colliding or something more.
You can read this as a standalone.
Highly Recommended

Another collection of stories but with a novel through line. None stand out to me as particularly great but I enjoy The Golden Boy story. A weird little collection that leads in into the final set of stories.
I don't know how to say how much I loved this volume. It is easily the best of those I've read. I went into this not expecting it to top Fables and Reflections for me but I think the framing device of all these one shot stories being tales told in an inn at the end of the world(s) just makes each tale so much better. I especially enjoyed the Necropolis Letharge story, and honestly would love to read more about that world. I also liked Hob's appearance and thought it was cool that there's this group of immortals that look out for eachother. The others were also fantastic, with perhaps the only one I am iffy about being A Tale of Two Cities, but I did enjoy it regardless. I think the crowning achievement of this volume however is absolutely the artwork, it is definitely my favourite in any volume and I wish I possessed one-percent of the talent that the artists do. 5/5 easy

I'm a basic bitch. I see a Sandman comic that depicts the vast array of complex stories in the universe and makes you feel safe from the storm of it all, I give it 5 stars.
