This is a book I come to periodically for information. So far, the information I have read from it has been helpful. Not all the information in the book will apply to everyone, but they really try to get all of the information any one particular person will need. Thus, it is not necessary to read the book from cover to cover. It is much more simple to go to the section you need and see what it says.

Some of this book is interesting and useful--I appreciated the discussion of the pros and cons of circumcision, and the list of milestones to look for each month is cool. Much of the rest of the book comes off as "are you sufficiently worried about this thing?" Or maybe that's just my (extremely sleep-deprived, between-the-lines) reading.

This was a very handy reference for my daughter's first year. I read only the parts that applied to our needs and picked up some great information. I liked it a lot!

don't judge a book by it's cover; I had my doubts based on this one. instead of reading the whole thing in advance, I approached it a month ahead of my baby's development and found it helpful. it's readable, well organized and thorough.

A useful reference, particularly in the early months. Better read as a reference work instead of in large chunks. Like its predecessor, it has topical sections and month-by-month descriptions of baby's growth and development which emphasize the wide range of normal that exists.

My biggest gripe with the book is the same as with What to Expect When You're Expecting, namely that the reference subject chapters are grossly out of order. Breastfeeding is helpfully at the beginning but adjusting to parenthood is at the back. While the subject chapters necessarily cover issues throughout the whole year, there are just certain things it would be easier to be prepared for, rather than reading about them after the fact. The book is also sadly lacking in detailed information about postpartum mood disorders, which affect at least 20% of moms and often go untreated due to ignorance of symptoms and resources.

A decent place to start and a good reference for first aid emergencies and common questions; however, most new moms would do well to look elsewhere for additional information relevant to their family.

Followed this so closely during the first few months when I had a million questions about everything... but now that the baby is into his 12th month, I just give it a quick skim. It has some great information... but it's also easy to get good information from friends, family and our paediatrician.

OK, so I didn't quite finish this...didn't get through the sections at the back about illnesses and injuries, but it looks like the WTE Second Year book has similar sections, so since I now officially have a one-year-old, I figured it was time to move on to the next book. I enjoy the writing style of this series; they try to be funny whenever possible, and non-judgmental about different parenting styles.

Great information in chunks to make it easier for new moms. I suggest reading BEFORE baby arrives.

This book was a wealth of information. While I would tend to get a little spun up when my little guy wasn't doing things according to the timeline, I know that's just my own personal crazy. :)
A good resource for new parents.

Very useful as a reference, rather than a read--not sure the Q&A format is necessary, though.
