3.5 stars, rounded up because the content and representation is so important.
Three Brazilian teenagers, whose orbits intersect, handle different aspects of their HIV status.
This is a super important story, addressing prejudice and overcoming real difficulties in a new health diagnosis, particularly one as tricky and weighty as an HIV diagnosis. However, it often felt heavy handed in its information giving, rather than storytelling. I also didn't really believe the primary love story. I didn't like the hot-and-cold waffling and stubbornness. At some (much earlier) point, I would have just cut my relationship losses and left him behind. (But I am definitely no longer a teenager, so....maybe that's just me.)
I would read whatever Rocha writes (has translated and published in English) next, and I'm glad he took on the topic.

Educational, heartwarming and so very necessary. I adored the cast of characters and their individual perspectives. The way their lives intertwined, whilst each very much having their own story to live and tell was wonderful to read. This book is filled with heart and honesty and I can't wait to recommend this to anyone and everyone. (The audiobook production is fab too.)

I have to say I really enjoyed this book, it may be up there with one of the best books of read this year. When I picked up this book I thought it wasn't gonna be it. Like it was gonna be boring. BUT I WAS WRONG. I don't think I've ever read a book so quick (now I'm a slow reader I mean slow) but this book I never wanted to put it down. I never knew much about hiv but after reading this book it's made feel some what understanding of hiv, like I will go do some more research but it really taught me things which you don't get taught in school. This book is so fast paced and so actually good. like it has loads of references.. I have to say overall this was such a good book!?! And it's so UNDERATTED for what reason?!??

This book was okay. The HIV rep is really important and it was interesting to read about Brazil. It felt very After School Special to me, but I know I'm also not the target audience.
