I tried but let's be honest this isn't Dracula. This is Van Helsing. Such a strong start and then dwindled.

This was a very slow read for me, for some reason. Even though it was a good story, it was difficult to get through for me somehow. I think it was mainly because of the dialogue, which was quite excessive, in my opinion, even for a classic. A lot of moments made me just think "aaaghh you've said this a couple times already! Get on with it!"

I enjoyed the female characters in this, especially Mina! She really carried the story. The other (male) characters felt a little like one and the same to me, I had trouble separating them from eachother in my head while reading.
The most fun was following the characters as they tried to discover the mystery-- I can't imagine what it would've been like reading this back when it first came out! It definitely must've been a lot more thrilling and scary than what I experienced at least.

Not bad! very long though. I listened to the audiobook rather than read the physical book, and I think that made certain parts a bit confusing to follow as far as timeline goes, but there was a section about a third of the way through that had a slower pace than the rest and made it hard to want to keep reading.

This book is incredibly dense! The plot doesn’t begin really until about halfway through, and even after that it was hard to get through the whole story.
