Adorable. Highly recommend for adventurous, imaginative grade schoolers.

Read with my 8 yo son. He liked the suspense, the superheroes theme, and the inclusion of comics. He said "there is kids' stuff in it," in a good way.  Ratings are his.

Newbery Medal Winner 2014

Loved this light-hearted story about a superhero squirrel and the family he flies into. The comic book illustrations were a wonderful addition, and the variety of quirky characters kept the story constantly entertaining. Yet, it dealt with real issues and didn't cross the line into flippant, nor did it offer easy resolution to real problems. The medal is well-deserved.

It's easy to see why this book won the Newberry Award. It's a wonderful story with some fantastic elements but enough meat from more real-life stuff that both kids and adults alike can enjoy it and learn from it. And having a cute squirrel never hurts either.

One of my absolute favorites. This book is endlessly sweet and endearing. Occasionally, DiCamillo can be a little too saccharine, but the whimsy in this one helps balance and allows those more emotional beats to hit.

a whimsical little book- not quite for me but also i’m 20 years old so i’m not quite the target audience 😭 the squirrel was DARN cute and the humans were all very quirky. My cousin liked this book so i wanted to give it a try :)
