DNFed at 24% because the amount of misogyny is both disgusting and disturbing.

As a fellow queer I'm so sad that I had to DNF this because I was so excited to read a book about trans people by a trans author. This seemed like a book about cool modern family, but it was not... the synopsis is extremely misleading.

The characters are simply awful; the writing is not my cup of tea, and I don't plan on finishing this book ever. I regret believing the hype.

I haven't read enough to rate a book but if I had torate what I've read it would be a 1/5.

Mostly a character study of three people that are very unique, interesting, chaotic, and of course beautifully queer. I loved that it incorporated deep political and reflective content through these characters and their experiences as opposed to just directly from a single protagonist or author (as in a memoir). A lot of queer literature I've read in the past focused on one character and one aspect of queerness (often sexuality) but this was much more detailed in that it explored many intersecting aspects of queerness and a variety of queer relationships in all their beauty and messiness.

I devoured this in a day. It's not just as good as you've heard, it's better.

Brilliant, sensitive, funny, full of character, and able to divine the complex relationships between sex, sexuality, womanhood, trans identity, parenthood, and change.
