a pretty disappointing conclusion tbh. this series had so much potential that it unfortunately did not reach imo :/
A lot to unpack. I'm annoyed that Pietyr didn't die and that Mira did. Katherine dying didn't bother me at all. The ending left a huge cliffhanger that will leave people guessing what happens next even though it will never be satisfied as it's the last book in the series.
The whole legion curse disappearing thing is a little confusing as does the mist and dead queens battle. It wasnt the ending I was expecting and something about it felt a little anticlimactic.
Tbh I'm not entirely sure what to think.

honestly I still stand by my point that this series should've stayed a duology. The writing is still amazing don't get me wrong, but the storylines dragged on for 4 seasons and fr tho Katharine's point of view made me so bore mainly bc of how much they changed her in comparison to book one (the only one which I absolutely loved tbh). the only good thing in this book was billy and arsinoe. I read book 2 and 3 but ngl I don't remember anything they were so just filler skjfsdk so from what I do remember, book 1 there was so much that couldve been worked with like arsinoe's poisoner powers, Katharine's naturalist ones, as well as Mirabella's powers which are supposedly" so good". not to mention literally don't give a flying fig about Jules and her random legion curse kdfjskdfs. anyways its still a book that kept me, to a certain point, entertained so at least this series is over. the ending was also lackluster to say the least so ksdfjdskf
I just got bored lol. But, overall, the serie is pretty good.

This was honestly quite a good series. I enjoyed the world-building and lore, I loved the fight-to-the-death history of the Queens and the magic of the island. As each book progresses you grow fond of the 3 sisters, and seeing their character development - the good and the bad - strangely felt like an honour.
However, I do have some bones to pick, particularly towards the end of this book.
The finale wasn't bad, it just felt like some things were too convenient, too unexplained. Namely, what the heck was that Blue Queen side-plot? It literally resulted in nothing. I still can't determine what Daphne's motive was and if her hints to kill Mirabella were personal or supposedly to benefit the island. Because Mirabella did die (don't even get me started. Even though I was hopeful, I did still expect her to die, just not as simple as falling off a cliff. And then the reaction to her death was weirdly lacking too. Anyway.) but her death did NOTHING to stop the mist. Which renders that whole plot-line useless.
Also, while we're on the subject, the mist just disappears?? Where did it even go? I know Illian was a powerful elemental but how did she even create it? Hm.
Oh, and Jules curse just happens to lift as well?? I was actually hoping she wouldn't end up being queen. In numerous scenes and POVs of her, she honestly gives every impression that she doesn't want the role. Plus, Emilia was one of the most annoying characters I have ever read and her pushiness cannot be excused by her feelings for Jules (that was also a strange undeveloped relationship).
Although it was sad, I did however expect Katherine to die. Let's be real, she was doomed from the start. I do pity her because she really was just a pawn, more so than the others. But she did step into the queen role quite well, however short lived it was.
And onto Arsinoe. She was a bit bland and she wasn't really my first pick of who would survive, but it honestly kind of makes sense towards this final book. I liked her use of the low magic and boy was it a surprise when it turned out she was a poisoner not a naturalist (although in the beginning I would often confuse her with Katherine since Arsinoe is clearly a name on-brand with the poisoners). Her relationship with Jules is really something so I wasn't too mad with how they ended up. However, I really do wish I could've seen Arsinoe embrace her poisoner side a bit more and show more of her skills. An alternate reality with Arsinoe growing up a poisoner would be oddly thrilling.
So there it is, my main thoughts on the conclusion of the series. There's more, but it'll probably send me spiraling into another whirlwind of unexplained plot holes. Really though despite my criticisms, I did enjoy this series a lot. If you're a fan of Victoria Aveyard's series Red Queen or Kiera Cass' The Selection, this might just be your next fix.

What a beautiful ending. Not quite a happy ending, but not a sad one either. I’ll miss this series so much, and it will forever be a favorite.
