Amazing work by McNamara, with years dedicated to research and writing. Without her efforts, the Golden State Killer would still be living freely. 
This book takes an informative and academic stance, so it may not appeal to all readers.

Deeply emotional because of the horror of the crimes committed, and the commitment of the author to her craft, even beyond the grave. But ultimately uplifting because

the killer was caught because of how hard Michelle worked to catch him, and all the time she dedicated to finding his identity.

This book had me hooked from the first chapter. It's well written and leaves enough mystery behind to really keep you invested. Just when you think the elusive Golden State Killer is caught, something doesn't quite add up. This book was an interesting insight into the forensic investigation of crimes, as well as the life and dedication of Michelle McNamara. Her research and personal experience being intertwined with the story of a killer and rapist was interesting and gave the book a much more personal feel. Although in the end we never do find out who the killer is, this information is now publicly available. It's tragic that McNamara did not survive to see her life's mission fulfilled, but the Golden State Killer has been brought to justice once and for all.
