I find it hard to review this book bring on such a personal topic. It was very raw and informative. But found it quite long and challenging to read.

I wanted to read this to better my understanding of autism and enable me to be a better ally. For the most part I enjoyed listening to it, but the last third I found very repetitive of things said earlier on and I did get bored.

James' memoir helped broaden my worldview regarding autism and more specifically autistic women. In a world favoring neurotypical people, it can be easy to remain ignorant without seeking the information out. It was helpful to learn about autism through the lens of her real-life experiences. My understanding has deepened and my curiosity has been piqued.

Some things were somewhat recognizable as I have autism myself and was diagnosed late in life, but it wasn't enough for me to spend my time trying to get through the amount of boring details and a story that did not engage me. Rather spend my time reading other books.
