๐๐ซ Huge thanks to author ๐ฆ๐๐๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฒ for sending me a copy of this incredibly thought-provoking novel! ๐ ๐ง๐๐๐ก๐ ๐ช๐'๐ฉ๐ ๐๐๐๐ก ๐๐๐ฅ๐ ๐๐๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ brings a quirky and heartwarming twist to the "end-of-the-world" scenario weโve all heard beforeโbut with a unique focus on human connection and the meaning of life when time is running out. The story follows Marlen and Hildaโs family in Saskatchewan as they process two shocking pieces of news: Marlenโs terminal illness and a cosmic event set to wipe out humanity in a few months. With the world in chaos, the family is forced to reckon with their past, face their present, and decide how to spend their final days. I loved how Suzy Krause crafted this fast-paced, engaging story. From Hildaโs prophetic art to her fatherโs mysterious visitor, every character felt so vivid and real. The storyline of Nora, the young woman in Berlin trying to find her way home to her family, added a beautiful layer of urgency and heart. Oh, and thereโs a touch of romance too! ๐ This novel is as much about the relationships between these richly drawn characters as it is about the looming apocalypse. It touches on heavy themes of life and death but also sneaks in humor and warmth, making it a perfect book to spark conversation. If you love stories that make you think โWhat would you do if the world were ending?โ while also giving you hope and heart, then this oneโs for you!

I had a hard time engaging and following most of the characters except Nora and Jacob. This book felt quite slow and the ending felt a bit flat to me. It was an interesting idea at the end but it just didnโt feel built on well enough.

If you start I Think We've Been Here Before with the idea that you're going to be exploring the complexities of a world that has just realized it will be wiped out by the end of the year, you should look elsewhere. Suzy Krause isn't bothered with answering questions about the logistics of governments, cults, or any of the logistics of the end of humanity. These are all incidental, and while some do get addressed in small amounts (How do you get back home? Are flights still running?), I Think We've Been Here Before takes a much tighter view, peering into the life of one fairly small family located in rural Canada, and a daughter who has just arrived in Berlin. Poor timing on her part!
This book focuses on people, not the event itself. It is always looming in the background, with several sections broken into NOVEMBER and DECEMBER, but the world keeps turning behind the scenes. We instead spend time in delicate family dynamics between individuals who, up 'til now have had difficulties communicating their love for each other, for various reasons. As the end approaches, each member of the family learns to share their joys and vulnerabilities with each other, showing that, yes, they do indeed care for each other deeply, but the mundanity and low-stakes of day-to-day life simply get in the way.
This is one of the few books that have made me tear up while reading it. While others might not find what they are looking for here, to me, finding love and community is precisely what this book is about. And that is everything.

Idk what I just read. Too many characters, not enough development and I was just unsure what I was reading the entire time. There was so much potential in the plot, or maybe it the idea or the plot I should say.
