Such an odd book, really enjoyed it - satirical IKEA engineer in Brooklyn, slower but engaging, radical gear shift in the last few chapters felt like a different book but still so good??
I hated this. I hated the chick lit style at the start, the unlikely romance with the dazzling boss and the eventual twist. I thought the writing was bad and I’m annoyed that someone evoked Eleanor Oliphant to trick me into reading this. From now on I will not waste time on books where the dull writing bores me senseless.
It was well written and the story was quirky. As an IKEA fan, I got a kick out of the IKEA-esque theme.
The constant reference to the furniture became exhausting. The story had a surprise, but not one that I found creative. And thanks to the book description, the reader already knows that it’s going to involve the love interest Matt, so you read waiting for him to do something. It takes 282 pages for something surprising to happen. The book is 360 pages which means most of it is waiting for things to take a turn. It should be 100 pages less, easy.
this book made me cry and laugh. unknowingly i picked it up and it is filled with subtle inside references to both new york city and swedish cultures.

I could see the "twist" (if you can even call it that) coming from the moment that i started reading, that did not make it any less enjoyable. I was seated and i needed to know how exactly everything was going unfold!

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.*
I am actively making my way through page two of my NetGalley TBR, where I lost a number of titles because I didn't realize I HAD a page two. This title appealed to me for the premise: Ava is an engineer for STÄDA, an IKEA-like corporate giant. Ava makes boxes and is so committed to her brand that she speaks in STÄDA, noticing every item. It's clever and entertaining. Ava is also deeply damaged from surviving a car crash 5 years ago that killed her parents and her fiancee, Andie. Ava is surprisingly swept off her feet by the new CEO, and despite her own internal warnings, she ignores all of the red flags and embarks on a tricky relationship.
A really different domestic thriller, made unique by the STÄDA angle as well as a decidedly millennial slant.
