Think The Vampire Diaries (show, not the books, I never read the books), but where the main character Elena Gilbert is actually Buffy. That's the impression I got for most of this book. Our girl comes to town, gets a surprise job working at a night club (like The Bronze? lol). The bitchy girl from school is dating the cutest boy in town and is incredibly jealous that said boy keeps insisting they're not together. I enjoy reading her bits, just because she's so angry and delusional. Cutest boy wants nothing to do with our main girl (sorry, I suck at names), but is forced to be her mentor at work, finds himself bumping into her, rescuing her from awkward situations, or warning her away from a dark attractive stranger (like Spike??). Our girl feels pushed away by cutest boy, and kinda lets herself be pulled toward this dark stranger, who ends up trying to suck her dry. He's a vampire. Cutest boy saves her, turns out he's a vampire hunter with the ability to travel through space and time. Bitchy girl at school is a powerful witch. And our main girl? She's something very special, too.
Kinda cliché, but I found myself not minding it being predictable. I liked the character interactions, the dialogue feels genuine instead of forced, and the story was intriguing and kept me interested. Unfortunately, it's not super memorable or different from what I've read before (or seen, for that matter), so it's fading quickly in my memory. I did add the second book to my wish list, but I'm probably going to have to read book 1 again before continuing on, whenever that might be.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ BOOK REVIEW ⭐️⭐️⭐️
So this was supposed to be one of my Feb reads so I’m squeezing in an extra this month.
I really enjoyed this book, I loved the language, I loved all the little twists and I think the overall story has the potential to be great! Jemma is a little wet at times but I think she may toughen up 👍🏼🤞🏼 so many threads left un touched so I’m hoping book 2 reveals a little more without creating to many more possible scenarios! 📚

Just what I needed right now. It’s a good story - a bit familiar but likeable characters. Reading book two coz of the cliffhanger.
I... just... can't... breathe!!!
Such a good book! Initially I thought, ok, another easy YA to read, but this made me fell ALL the feels!
It's great to see character improvement throughout a book, but at some point I did just want to shake the MC and the stupid decisions she made, but it worked for her personality.
What an ending to leaving you feeling all emotional and WHAT THE H....?!! I did not see that one coming!

I was excited when I read the summary of the book, finally an interesting story that I don't have to read about an academy or college and deal with school drama stuff written in. Nope, in the second chapter here comes an academy. I'm out, I'm sick of reading the drama that writers put into academy stories and I'm upset that this wasn't listed as such on the store so I could avoid it.
Wow this book caught me off gaurd. I am usually the kind of person that sticks with books that I already know and love, OR have been recommended by a close friend with similar taste in books as me. But I branched out and took a chance, and was NOT disappointed! I was captivated immediately, and am currently on book #4. I work full time as well as am a mom to a toddler, and I am still staying up until all hours of the night unable to put them down, and stealing minutes reading a page here and there on my kindle, on my phone, in line at the store. Its almost as if I am "compelled" to be reading them!! 10 stars if I could!!
Oh man I thought this was a complete series but it is not there's atleast one more book because book 3 (iniquitous) just ended on the mother of all cliff hangers that stole my heart right out from my chest. I generally make it a rule not to read unfinished series for this very reason! But I thought this was a trilogy! I can't say I'm mad though because I am desperately waiting for the next book, which as of yet doesn't even have a release date! The horror! So while I do suggest you wait till the series is complete, you really should read these books. I loved them, the pacing was great, the protagonist and side characters were great. I do wish some of the side characters had a little more scenes because they were great but you didn't see a lot of them. Jemma our vampire slaying modern Buffy is a badass and very believable in her reactions to how her world has just been turned on its head. Though I wasn't a fan of her backstory in book one (she spent a few months in hospital even though it turns out she didn't need to be there) and it was just almost never mentioned and had almost no effect on her as a character. Also I hate love triangles, I can't stand them and they need to die. BUT that said, I actually didn't mind this one. -Shock horror- it was believable, she wasn't just torn between two hot guys who were both obsessed with her and crying about how she couldn't choose, she was put into situations were she had no choice but to bond with them both and did what she could with that while not being a two timing hoe. Which was nice, I loved the world and the edge of your seat moments. There were parts that had me crying (keep in mind I cry about puppies that haven't been adopted yet on an almost daily basis, so I'm not sure how much that counts for) overall it was a really great series and I really liked it and can't wait for the next book.
Who I recommend this book to: Anyone who loves a love triangle, and even those who don't. Anyone looking for a quick fulfilling read in a fun supernatural setting. Vampire lovers, and readers who enjoy a good relatable protagonist!
I give it 5/5 roses 🌹 while there were some issues I didn't really feel like it took away from the story and I still loved reading it so I couldn't bring myself to give it anything less

Would have rated it a little higher if the main character wasn't so stupid and annoying. Enjoyed the world and classes of angel descendants and how vampires were originally created. Will read the next book in hopes that the main character becomes a badass and gets more street smart. I'm also interested in where the main storyline will go...
Um...Holy Sh*t!! I thought this was going to be a typical'ish vampire store but man was I wrong. I was about 30% of the way through last night and I finished it by 4:00 am this morning.
The details get to be a bit much when the main character is figuring out wtf is going on but as she learns, you learn, and everything gets easier to handle and the story gets intense.
I love the detail and the history and the levels and the plot twists -- omg the plot twists. I would've started book 2 already but adulting is hard.
