2.5 stars. This gives Wattpad vibes. And the story is boring. I'm not even sure if there even was a story.

This was cute as shit and I'm in love with the characters! A fantastic, autumnal read!

Eh... it was okay, kinda...

The book looks cute - looks spooky and halloweeny, great for an October read. But it wan't for me. I was bored.

The book was slow for me; took 100+ pages for the first kiss, and then they were assumed to be immediately in a relationship. For it to be marketed as a romance, it took far too long for things to happen.
Other than the pumpkins on the front cover and the mention of ghosts in the "haunted" house, it's not spooky/halloweeny. I was bored about 80 pages in, then it picked up a little, then went back to being dull. I thought about DNFing it a few times but I hoped that towards the end it would pick up and be a little spookier - I was wrong.

I liked Sal and Pax's relationship throughout the book, and I liked that there wasn't this big thing about them being a gay couple - there were no jokes and teasing about them being gay unlike literally every other lgbt book I've read. I can't really think of anything else I enjoyed....

I received an ARC of this copy from NetGalley. I ended up reading it while I was sick, which was the perfect choice.

I definitely thought this was going to be a spooky, cozy read and was surprised when it was a less spooky and more cozy.

The story follows Sal, a teen boy living in an old house with his sister that everyone suspects is haunted. A boy moves down the street and tries to help Sal with his house ghost problems. This story beautifully follows grief and young love. I loved the symbolism throughout the book and the different twists that occurred.

It was unexpected but I enjoyed how cozy everything was and it ended up being everything I wanted from Star Girl when I was younger. But better… and queer.

I ended up loving this and have recommended it to my friends and family!

Jahreshighlight und absolutes
Wohlfühlbuch ♥️!

Queer, friendship, mystery, Halloween, autum vibes, heartwarming and beautifully written!

Absolute Empfehlung für alle die Heartstopper mochten - Sal und Pax werdet ihr definitiv lieben!

I really liked this book. For a queer YA novel, I felt that this ticked all the boxes. It was adorable, but not as saccharine as Heartstopper. It was less sexual than things like Simon James Green, which I liked, and the characters had some range and variety. I've said it before and I'll say it again - I love when queer characters don't have an internalised homophobia arc. I also appreciated that this story had more plot than just boy meets boy. The cover art put me off a bit - they all look so perfect - but the characters are flawed in their own realistic ways, and they are all quite likeable.
