Shopaholic is back

I love the Shopaholic books. The story in this one was very entertaining and it was a fast read. I really liked the Suze storyline in this one. This was different from others in the series because for the first time Becky was not in a jam, but got to use her creativity to help others get out of sticky situations! I do wish the had been more of a Becky and Luke together though.

Yes, Becky was finally more mature and I liked her so much in this installment. Becky's mother & Janice have usually been much more fun so it was a bit disappointing in this one.

I was so annoyed with Tarkie & Graham who couldn't tell what they were doing or where they were. I think the meaning was to keep this somehow mysterious but I was only annoyed. I never understood their reason not to tell. But overall this one was a light adventure.

Really should have known better... The first couple of books in this series were funny enough and the writing style could be forgiven. However last few books were tough reads and this one made me want to find Becky and bang her head against a wall. Urgh.

My favorite Shopaholic book since the first one. Becky pretty much spends the entire book repenting for her bad behavior from the last one (or several). It’s a breath of fresh air. Suze is a horrible b**** for the first half, but it improves. Becky stands up for herself more and her quirks are actually cute and kind of funny again. Luke was actually present and paying attention to his marriage. He still was off working a lot, but he managed to not be a d*** about it! I don’t know if these positives will last, but I appreciated it all for now! A fast-paced and hard-to-put-down story.

I'd imagine it's hard for any author to keep up a series where characters see growth and change, but the heart of the story stays true, but Sophie Kinsella managed to do this. In this one, we get to see Becky grow and take on new challenges (and feelings) that are quite different than anything we've seen in the past, but still feel very much immersed in the world that we know and love. This is one of my very favorite series, and I'm so pleased that it's growing and evolving without getting thrown off course. I really hope there are more, but at the same time feel like it could be the last.

Well, this was better than the previous book. It seems Becky may have actually learned some lessons. I think this is the first time in the entire series that she actually acted like a grown up. In the end, it was good mindless reading.
