This book sat on my shelf for over two years (I bought it pre-pandemic) without me ever touching it. I went through a phase where I couldn’t consume anything related to theatre, so I’m so glad I waited until now.
The characters- as someone who went to theatre school, I know I wouldn’t be able to hold a 5 minute conversation with these people, but at the same time I would want to be them so bad.
The plot- absolutely in love with it being broken up into 5 acts. The TINY Shakespeare nerd in me got so excited
The writing- I’m obsessed with how it has moments of script format.

I loved this book. I wouldn’t say the ending took me by complete shock, but it was very satisfying. I need more dark academia novels in my life ???

going into this book I was uncertain if I would like it because I didn’t really enjoy Shakespeare in high school. The only Shakespeare play I enjoyed was hamlet and it was because the teacher explained majority of the plot to us students. I did really enjoy the book though I liked reading about their messy how many young dumb decisions were made. It was a really good time. And  the book had a really great way of pulling at your heartstrings and making you understand why someone would do horrible things.

Ugh!! This had soo much potential but just didn’t deliver. For me the biggest issue is underdeveloped relationships and because of them the plot just doesn’t make sense.

Richard dies waay too early! I think it would have made more of an effect had he been alive for longer and the group dynamic with him still alive developed more. Also why was he so violent and hateful towards them now? weren’t they friends before? What happened? Why was he so angry the night he died??

I also didn’t really FEEL the deepness of James and Oliver’s relationship. And for the love of God why on earth would they lock up Oliver if the police dont even believe he did it? If James felt so guilty why didn’t he just freaking CONFESS no matter what Oliver wants?

So yeah I kinda enjoyed reading it but it definitely was not great and im frustrated cause i think it COULD’VE been great! The writing’s good and the characters likable, setting works ans the vibes are there but it just falls a bit flat.
