What to expect: witch/vampire, second chance romance, correcting social injustices, one bed

After binging the first 4 books (and the novellas) via audio, I finished just in time for the newest book to be released! Since the audio is not out yet, this was the first one I physically read and I tabbed it!

I was so excited for this one since Jules & Ruben are in the previous books, and you just KNOW that these two are in love, but denying it.

In this book, the second chance romance did not disappoint. Jules and Ruben were able to grow individually and become their own people, they worked together to correct social injustices in the supernatural community, and THEN they made me bite my fist and blush multiples times.

Oh also, this book starts with a prologue of when they were first together and it’s a case of “this books starts with a bang” 💥

5 stars - I loved it!

“You’ve always been my queen, Juliana. You always will be.”

We finally have Jules and Ruben’s story! This book is probably the one everyone has been waiting for since Jules and Ruben were introduced in Wolf Gone Wild. They have a lot of history and sexual tension between them, but after twelve years apart, Ruben decides he’s done waiting.

Ruben is the most powerful vampire in New Orleans and is a successful businessman. He has spent twelve years securing his place in the city and waiting for his second chance with Jules. I liked that Ruben respected Jules’ wishes and left her alone to deal with her issues and secure her place as Enforcer. Ruben was a character that I have liked from the beginning of this series and this book just made me love him even more. He was respectful of Jules and her abilities but never backed down from his pursuit of her. He didn’t let her fear keep them apart anymore, which is just what they both needed. Also, I was very surprised by how romantic Ruben was.

“Since the day I realized you were my whole heart, I’ve never stopped loving you. Not for one painfully paralyzing minute.”

Jules has been the pillar of the Savoie family throughout this series. She is the one everyone can rely on. I have liked her from the very beginning and I fell ever more in love with her in this book. She has kept everyone at a distance since becoming Enforcer but with Ruben she finally learns to relax. I loved seeing her open up to Ruben and work through their past issues, and present issues. I also appreciated that while she was nervous about Ruben pursuing her again, she also wanted it to happen. I can enjoy a romance with some push but I also love when a MC just opens up to it and works through their fears to find happiness.

“I wanted a partner. An equal. I wanted my soulmate. My deep, true love. And I wanted him at my side, always, from this day forward.”

This book was also interesting because we get to travel around the world meeting different Covens. This leads Ruben and Jules into a very dangerous situation with a vampire leader and some black magic. I really liked the fact that the drama that was happening didn’t get in the way of Ruben and Jules’ relationship building. Also, I loved how this wrapped up for Jules and Ruben and hope we see a wedding scene in the future. I can’t wait for the next book now!

Trigger Warnings; torture mentioned, kidnapping, blood, violence, misogyne from older vampires, prejudice against werewolves. One Harry Potter reference.

Thank you Juliette Cross for giving me an ARC copy of Resting Witch Face!

Ruben + Jules — IT’S ABOUT DAMN TIME!

I loved this book. As we edge closer to the end of this series, we have really seen so many different types of love stories. It’s fitting that the mystery in this book was deeply rooted in their shared past. I really enjoyed the way this story was written — from the first chapter (y’all when I say I cried) to the very end, this story was so damn good.

And omfg, RUBEN! I never saw this side of him in the previous books. I really enjoyed seeing his growth within the book (past & present). Also the possessiveness was just right 🤌

This book gave Ben + Bailey 🥵 vibes from season 8 of Greys. Mutual pining, forced proximity, tension you couldn’t cut with a chainsaw and a head start. 🌶🌶🌶🌶

When I say I’m not ready for this series to end! That being said, I cannot wait until Clara + Henry’s book!!!

This is the book I have been anxiously waiting for. Juliana and Ruben's mysterious story hooked me in the first book and every book since it has been a treat to see unfold. This is a fantastic story and I can't wait to read it again.

Jules and Ruben had an explosive beginning, rocky and heartbreaking middle, and a delicious ending/new beginning. If you like strong female characters, men that will wait forever for their true love, delicious spicy scenes, magic, and a bit of saving the world then try this book.

I hope that we get to see a bit more of them in the rest of the Savoie sister stories to come.
