This is one I have physically owned for eons but have heard mixed things on. I wanted to listen to it to see what my thoughts were, and well, it was meh šŸ˜•

The overall thriller/mystery aspect was done well, I was guessing a couple times over what the hell is actually happening but I hate Noelle’s character and her whole story line so it was really hard to get past that lol. The whole basement, hamsters, Ellie actually being dead, the baby situation (genuinely what the fuck!!!), and Floyd…

I felt like we were strung along for not much of a pay off. I love when thrillers have this massive OMFG WHAT JUST HAPPENED moment, and this one didn’t have that for me unfortunately šŸ’”

Saw both twists coming but still so fun!

I don’t think I’ve ever read a book so fast in my life haha! It was captivating and I loved the mystery behind it all!! I audibly said ā€œoh my godā€, multiple times.

I enjoyed this book despite figuring out the twist quite early on - if anything it made me feel more on edge waiting to see when the characters would figure it out!! I spent most of the book shouting at the pages in frustration that the characters hadn't pieced it together. Disturbing, heart breaking, frustrating...so a great thriller overall!

This book really captivated my brain in the first half and really wanting more. I read it incredibly fast for me too. So it was clearly a decent read. I just really did not enjoy how dark it got so fast. It took such a turn when she was kidnapped, and how horrible it was for Ellie. Then for Floyd to kill himself at the end I thought was somewhat unnecessary, just added to the morbidity of it all. I also didn't get that Floyd also had another daughter and there was no thought about her at the end. I did enjoy it and that there was a purpose to Floyd meeting Laurel. I think it may have just been a tad too dark for me.

I couldn’t actually put the book down, but I had to severely suspend reality because there’s a large part in the plot that involves someone artificially inseminating a teenager… but… how? A lot of similarities to None of This Is True. There’s a couple unreliable narrators, and I’m just sad for poor Ellie.

I think 4.5 for me.
