The way Nnedi Okorafor writes has me spellbound. I am inspired to say the least. I don’t know what else to fully say other than if you have had a moment in life that defined a before and after, a moment that changed you completely, and where you had to find your own conviction to move forward, read this. Feel empowered. Feel or gain empathy for those around you. Especially if you know people who’s physical bodies have been altered massively. Just read it and come to your own conclusion.

This is an inspiring book, though it helps to go into it knowing that (1) it is short, and (2) it is about Okorafor's personal experience only. This is not a book about disability in general, but how her personal journey helped her to grow as a person and a writer.

This memoir is short but powerful. Partially an account of the author's paralysis as a result of a surgery, partially an account of how to overcome obstacles and dark times, and use them to propel yourself forward, this memoir is one that I think anyone could appreciate. The story is deeply personal to the author, but has a message that all readers can appreciate.

What an inspiring read! The author packed so much into a small space but it didn't feel cramped or forced or generic. Although I've had her books on my TBR list for a while, I was inspired to read this book after one of her short stories was included in the anthology Out There Screaming

The touching and inspiring story of the events that changed the author's life and the perception of who she was as well as her physical perceptions, and of how she faced and overcame all obstacles, or at least adapted and became more and better because of them, finding her calling and new strengths. Unmissable if you love Okorafor's work.
