Wow, it is almost exhausting to read these stories about Jory. He is a whirlwind! "God, Jory, you're like a ride at an amusement park."
This book is primarily about Jory and less about Sam. I would have liked to have seen more of Sam. There is slightly less action than previous books but it is still fast-paced and full of humour - Jory's dialogue is very amusing! "So let's have a do-over. I'm sorry for insulting your complete lack of interest in your own home, and you will forgive my blunt analysis of your colossal failure. How'd that be?"

Did he get shot in the shoulder or not??? That’s the only thing that’s in my mind after this insane ride.

Book 5 of a series (though I understand the other books are more installments of one story). I hadn't read the earlier books in this series so had no idea of the characters involved but have enjoyed previous stories written by Mary Calmes. I picked this one up in the DSP giveaways in Oct 12.
I did quite enjoy this one, probably a 3.5 due. The writing certainly kept me page turning so I devoured it in two sittings.
The story had lots of plot twists, though at times Jory was a bit exasperating - I think I'd have wanted to tie him down to get a bit a sense out of him and for his own safety!

22.10.19 reread : Having read the previous books now, I did get more annoyed by Jory - he attracts people that border on abusive/stalker behaviour; he really is the epitome of the TSTL hero. So afraid to say, skimmed a lot. This time 3*

While I'll admit that this series will never be a favourite of mine and probably won't be read again, this one was better than the ones before. I don't know if that's because there's so much less of Sam in this, or that Jory's scatteredness is by now simply 'whatever' but I got through this one quicker than expected.

How can one person attract so many guys and so much trouble? Jory makes this series fun add in Sam and everything gets panting melting HOT.

2nd re-listen. Dropping rating to 3 stars from 5.

Narration: barely 2 stars
Story: 4 stars

Jeff Geldrer is so not doing it for me as a narrator. Very little performance, very little emotion, speed reading and mistakes (prostrate instead of prostate). The editing is not good either, having the same issues as the first 2 books of the MoT series.

Story wise Sam and Jory are together for the last 1-1 1/2hr of it.... So what you get is once again Jory's TSTL way of living, thinking of mobsters as "good guys" despite being told very clearly and very firmly the opposite is true. But nope, till he gets a gun to the head the message ain't getting through.

So why do I give the story 4 stars? Because the parts where Sam and Jory are together are simply amazing and when I needed a pick me up I always went to those (skipping the rest of the outrageous story).

It's absurd. But I enjoyed a little to much, thought so...
