I would say this story is fairly middling. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't fantastic. I enjoyed the premise and Keera's character, but her interactions with the MMC felt a little lacking. The story structure relied a little too heavily in telling, not showing, and at times I felt I was missing something because the story felt a bit jumpy.

I was also disappointed with

how the reveal of her scars to the MMC was handled. It's usually one of my favorite tropes but this was not handled well.

The ending didn't surprise me, but I'm still interested enough to read the second book. I probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone though unless they are looking for the specific tropes in this book.
