This book is the physical embodiment of everything I love about reading. 1. Characters who feel real with major development and depth. 2. A FMC who is flawed, but not weak. 3. A MMC who is dark and broody, with a soft spot for his lover. 4. A world that is super interesting with unique details and cool magic. 5. Includes some of my favorite tropes: enemies-to-lovers, who-did-this-to-you, "stay with me", slow-burn, etc. ***Major bonus points since the FMC isn't 17!!!!!

Mir hat das Buch gut gefallen und ich kann auch gar nicht viel negatives sagen, da ich das Buch auch recht schnell durch gelesen habe. Allerdings hat es mich nicht so emotional gecatcht das ich komplett in der Welt hineingezogen wurde. Ich werde die Reihe auf jeden Fall weiter lesen, vor allem weil mir auch der romantische Plot gefallen hat und der in Buch eins noch sehr wenig passiert ist und ich die Entwicklung weiter verfolgen möchte. Auch der politische Aspekt des Buches fand ich Mega spannend! Dennoch brauche ich noch etwas mehr für 4 Sterne.

Not gonna lie, the first half of this book was pretty slow for me. It just felt like a bunch of traveling and not a whole lot of doing anything. The second half definitely picks up and it made me appreciate the slowness of the first half. It did a great job characterizing our protagonist and building on the slow burn of the romance. I really like Keera as a main character. I think her alcoholism and guilt for killing paired with her ruthlessness and obvious care towards her people make her such an interesting character. I love the dynamic between the main group and especially liked seeing them trust Keera over time. I like how the politics built slowly over the course of the book and the ending shocked me. I definitely have high hopes for the rest of this series.
