Picked this up on a whim due to the mentioned sapphic representation. I wanted to DNF a third of the way in because the bury your gays trope was becoming very apparent, but I continued in hopes that the remaining plot would make up for that... I finished in spite of and won't continue with the rest of the series as the plot wasn't too intriguing.

It was meh. I was bored and didn’t really enjoy it. Just pushed through it. I didn’t want to DNF but I probably should have

This book caught me by surprise! I just had picked it up at random and honestly I was hooked! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the pacing felt weird to me, and some things that happened felt very sudden or out of nowhere. Other than that it was such a fun read and I am looking forward to continuing the series!

3.5 stars.

this was fun
everything was unoriginal imo, read lots of similar stuff before and they were way better planned and written
i got tired of the repetitive writing tbh
how many times can a person bite his lip? how many times can a person’s cheeks tint red in embarrassment. it was all very cliché, very predictable
and in my opinion, please dont come for me for this
i felt like the author was trying to make anyone and everyone be bi or just include any kind of lgbtq into it. and it wasn’t smooth at allllll. it felt very awkward and stiff
same goes for the dialogue, i’d grimace sometimes from how stiff and unnatural it sounded. no way uou read that and thought ‘yeah that’s definitely what anyone says in that situation’
tbe plot was weird at times
we got introduced to killian learning that he doesn’t attend anything much cause he’s not interested in the crown. Great, so far so good. but then suddenly he shows up alot? comments and adds his input to plans? and that’s natural? no one suspects anything??
you could’ve atleast waited a bit maybe or removed the part saying that he doesn’t show up much to anything
the MMC was so BOOOOORING. why did she fall in love with him out of everyone? tf? thought nikolai had more of a personality to him than riven.
the romance went like this: they met, he kisses her, met again, he hates her, he hates her so much, she asks him why do you hate me, they fall in love.
overall, it was fun sure but i won’t continue the series, i won’t be recommending it to others and i do t think i’ll reread this ever.
