Initial reaction...This was excellent. Firmly one of my favourite SK books.
It has lots in common with 112263, with the book covering similar topics but from different angles.

I understand the book was well received on release but I really don't understand why it's not talked about as much as the author's other titles.

This book was described to me as a political thriller with a lot of sexual assault. As such I avoided it for quite awhile. The political piece is really only the last 100 pages and the sexual assault pieces are of course horrific but fairly brief descriptions. The heart and humanity of this book was a pleasant surprise. It reads more like a series of vignettes containing a cast than a novel per se and I'm okay with that. So glad I finally read this.

Reading this 45 years after publication,  I can say it made my heart pound. Stephen King somehow managed to anticipate our political future,  and create a compelling story of the nightmare of knowing too much. His hero is cursed with an ability to read people and their pasts and futures. Others don't believe him, and he is driven to act.
I appreciated the complexity of John and the important people in his life. King takes the reader in quickly and doesn't let go. I read this in 2 days because I couldn't put it down.
