Ooof, tough read. Written well, but the subject was just tough for me.

It's a book I read practically by mistake. I had never heard of it and just happened to stumble on it at a low price, was intrigued... and got caught in the story. Really bad.

It's the kind of book you think about long after you've finished it. And years later, something triggers a flashback from the story, and you think about it again. I just stays with you like that. That's how powerful this story is.

A few months after reading the book, I discovered a movie was made out of it. The movie was good, but I'm happy I read the book before I saw it. The book is much more anxiety-provoking. Much darker. I loved Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the role of Neil though, I think he quite nailed it.

I read this and liked it a lot it well before it was adapted into a movie. My notes from my journal of 1997 say: "A very good book. He handled the multiple perspectives pretty well, though the ovices could have been differentiated a little better."

What can I say about this book that hasn’t already been said? I’ll start with this: it made my heart ache for a time in my life that I don’t even remember, a time before there were aliens. Scott Heim created a dark, twisted, heartbreaking piece that will sit with me for a long time. Very good, worth a read.
