I really loved this. The best part was there was no musical elements.

I'd seen the movie before I read this, granted it was years ago so I only remembered the very basic plot. I am very familiar with the soundtrack though (since every skater seems to skate to Phantom at least once in their career) and found myself humming the music as I read at certain points. I like that even though this is a classic, it doesn't read like a classic as some do. It was easy to read and enjoyable. Now I must go watch the movie again and listen to the soundtrack again!

The Phantom was born with 'all his majestic ugliness' and really made it everyones problem. Poor, unhappy Eric, what a loser.

The plot itself is obviously interesting, I like the kind of playful writing style and I'm very happy that I read it. It just wasn't really engaging, with too much focus on really trivial things while the important and interesting moments were mostly just summarised.
I don't need 2 chapters describing a torture chamber, I would rather have more of Eric panicking (and dying) because of a forehead kiss.

So basically....Erik gives Christine the choice either to marry him or to die.

Didn’t realize until I finished that this was a middle grade adaptation. Still, the novel moved so fast that there were no stakes, no tension, no real motivation explanation, or even personality. Even the life-threatening moneys were only given a panel or two. Does not do the story justice. Only reason it’s not a one star is because I love Phantom of the Opera

This book was fine. Maybe it would have been better if it was from Christine’s pov. The inspirations behind the novel are almost more interesting than the plot, which could be a bit boring.

P.S. I love the 2004 film & I would sell my first born to see the musical live on Broadway.
