I read this book in 10th grade and loved it.

It tells the story of Edmund who falls in love with Mercedes- but a jealous friend gets him imprisoned before they can marry. Edmund is sent to a prison where he will never escape. There, he befriends an old man who teaches him everything he knows. Edmund only wants revenge. He eventually escapes and finds his love has married his friend. And he must decide if revenge is what he truly wants.
