This was.. odd. But beautiful. But also, and I'm not ashamed to admit it, I didn't understand most of it. Did I already say it's beautiful? When I thought I finally got the hang on things the lyrical prose washed right over me and I found myself treading water again. Oh, but it was beautiful, in case I forgot to mention it.

Interestingly enough I read most of it on one evening because once I found the rhythm of the writing it was relatively easy to get through, which doesn't mean I was able to comprehend what I read. However, I did like the time travel aspect and the concept of the opposite agencies (one nature and one technology based) although the world-building overall was very vague. I also liked to read about the methods these two women came up with to transport their letters through time.. but I honestly didn't understand how and why these women fell in love with eachother or what happened in the last 10% or so.. The ending is a big fat ? for me, even Google couldn't help be.

I think as a movie adaptation this could work wonders for me, because I'm easily taken in by breathtaking visuals underlined with an omimous score - the movie IO (2019) comes to mind, it's objectively not good story-wise but I liked it nonetheless - but as a book, I.. struggled.. quite a bit.
In the end I could justify giving this 2 stars as well as 4 stars, so I'm going with my "I didn't dislike it but I'm also not sure if I really liked it" 2.75 star rating - do with it whatever you will.

It’s one of those books that grips your thoughts and never lets you go. I kicked myself for leaving on my shelf for so long.
