I read Laura Bates' Men Who Hate Women earlier this year, so I wasn't surprised to read that many of the incidents of bullying in the book were based off real life teenage girls' experiences of school. As a result the novel felt a lot more realistic than many YA novels. No one starts a feminist zine or stages a walkout (yes, I just read Moxie) but instead, Anna just tries to get on with her new life while remaining invisible.

However I felt as though the realism of the school events were overshadowed by the random paranormal visions that Anna experiences, particularly as they begin to get longer and more detailed as the book went on. I liked that Anna was researching a "witch", especially as she was living in her old house, but the visions just totally lost me after a while. They weren't really necessary in my opinion.

Also, I absolutely hated that it was Anna's mother's fault for leaking their new location to the bullies from their old life.
How stupid can you possibly be?? Why would you just tell an old friend who wasn't even that supportive at the time, random and personal details about your daughter's new friends, that you overheard while eavesdropping!?!? It just didn't make sense to me and it all unravelled at the end so there were no real consequences for it, Anna just seemed to get over it really quickly which I just don't think would happen.

Overall I loved the style of the book and I think it sensitively covered some important topics while remaining quite accessible and well written, but a few of the plot points were a let down for me.

Oh man, I found this book so hard to read because of its themes(I think any woman will agree, whether you've experienced anything like it or not), my heart really ached for Anna. Still, it has some really beautiful moments towards the end and I especially love how the book focuses more on friendship love instead of romantic love. Highly recommend it!
