Interesting how this somehow feels dated only two years after publication because of how quickly social media keeps evolving. Felt weirdly Millennial despite in theory being targeted at Gen Z.

Good, but I do think it had some flaws -
the fact BOTH schools attempt to shame Anna as well as punish her could send an awful message to young girls going through a similar experience and might make them fearful of seeking help themselves??

Overall, a good book. I would rate it 7/10. I randomly picked it up in a local library when wasn't able to decide what to read. It ended up a light read (not for everyone. Some people might find some parts hard and disturbing), which helped me get back to reading.

Despite the lightness of the tone, it got harder when the big secret got revealed. SpoilerI experienced all sorts of emotions because I've been through a similar experience. The reaction of people, society in general, made me furious. Later, I calmed down, and instead of anger came a mix of hurt, fear and sadness. I would also say impotence because what can Anna or any other girl do in a situation like this? They have no control over such situations, and this is why it should be talked about people should be educated on such matters, and the law should be adjusted to punish people responsible for posting such things. Moreover, I actually liked that the book shed light on sexism and religion thought-out history.

However, there are some downsides. The scene with Simon at the beginning is weird and even unnecessary. Seems like it was added for us not to hate on him so much because "He is abusing and bullying people not because he is bad, but because he is bullied himself". In my opinion, it's a toxic message to send, even though I am speculating on the scene's purpose now. Also, I agree with most other reviews: the speech at the end was weird and unrealistic. It feels like I was watching a movie where the character gives a powerful speech about how okay for girls to sleep with boys, and everyone suddenly realized that yes, indeed, it is. However, this wasn't a movie, nor it was powerful.

Btw, a sick quote: "We are the granddaughters of the witches you could not burn. And we are not putting up with it anymore."

Despite all this, I am glad stories like this exist, and I hope more young girls would read them. I also believe every girl should have a mom like Anna's.

P.S. Genres are a little misleading. This was not what I picture as "paranormal". However, not for me to decide.
