Sam Vimes se retrouve à voyager dans le passé, confronté à son lui du passé, et à devoir se battre pour retrouver son futur.
On connait la rengaine avec Pratchett, mais c’est ici un des livres qui m’a le plus touché, le combat de Vimes pour retrouver sa vie et l’histoire de la Garde est honnêtement mignon comme tout, un très joli moment !

God, this book. This book! It is no wonder this is largely considered one of Pratchett's best works. The story itself is incredibly compelling. Add the message, the character dynamics, the tongue-in-cheek humor and you have, not a perfect book, but the type of story that pulls you in and keeps you there until you have laughed and cried all your emotions out.
😳 WHAT IN THE WORLD?!?!? When I think back to The Light Fantastic and compare it to this one, when did it all get so serious and , man, DARK! This was not a book poking fun at fantasy with a really good message at the end. This was an analysis of the madness of an urban revolution!
Don’t get me wrong, origin books are ALWAYS fun, especially when you got a cast like this, but man - I cant think of a better word than dark. There was some points to take home, about how we are example to ourselves, that doing what’s right ulmately is about protecting people, the things that he taught, the accountability we have for the actions we didn’t take but turned a blind eye to, and what it means to be the man that uses the beast and not the other way around. Then what he told Varitariminiii (sp?) when he suggested that they say “they did the job they had to do” and how angry he got, because they didn’t have to do it, that was the whole point, and it didn’t make them heroes - it just made them friends who made a decision they thought was right, or at least they could live with, who were now dead because the world went mad. He warned about putting the idea of being a hero into someone’s head - because that isn’t how it works in the real world.
Even with all that, with how this one took longer to read because it sucked a little out of my soul as I did so, it didn’t have the stress that other books have. Because this is a Disc world book, and he has earned my trust that it will have a happy ending.
