By far the weakest volume I've read in the series thus far. It's got the most POVs, which would be a nice change of pace if anything was done with those POVs. While you can easily describe the plot of every other book in The Expanse before this one, this... doesn't have a lot going on. It's mostly people talking and theorizing and thinking a lot. The actual "plot" happens in the last... 10? 15? percent of the story, and it's frankly pretty lackluster.

It was like pulling teeth to get through some of the POVs, too, though the worst was Filip, who basically does nothing but brood for pages upon pages. What a yawn.

Still well-written, but it feels like this kind of introspection from so many characters is not where James S.A. Corey shine. This is supposed to be the book about a war, but there's a whole lot of not-a-war going on. Hope future installments return to form.

Another amazing entry in the Expanse series. This author is incredible at telling incredible stories of character and cosmic level scale plots. My only gripe is that the science fiction side of this book in particular falls a little bit flat. I know it's setting up for later books, but these books themselves are already a decent commitment to read.
That being said, the book is still truly a marvel in storytelling. The expanded worlds of the main characters and how they deal with them was a thrill to follow along with. The fate of the world was hanging on a thread for the entire book. Edge of my seat the whole time
