What a ride. All the characters went through such monumental changes, there is no way you can compare them to how they were in the first book of this trilogy. I can't believe how far we've come, and how everything got tied together in such a satisfying way. Mysteries got solved, yet brought forth some interesting connections with the first trilogy (especially the ones with a certain character!)
This leaves me with many questions to wonder; how will this shape the future of the series and its world? I really can't wait to read the next trilogy already!

All that said though, some parts of this book were genuinely hard to read at times. Please make sure to check the trigger warnings before reading this, if you're worried about it!
TW for:
Spoiler SA, rape, PTSD, child abuse (mostly in the past), violence/death.

I want to wax philosophical about how everything that needed to be settled did and how things are never as tidy but

DNFing after about 5%.

I endured so much bad writing to make it to book 3, and I'm just not having a good time. Looking at the reviews of this, also, shows that all of it was for naught anyway. I absolutely cannot fathom the continued violence against women, and the ultimate fate of our original heroine. I want to believe it's meant to be a larger commentary on something, but I can't find it. It's just awful, and a total departure from what I loved about the other books in this overall setting.

I'm continuing on with the other books in the Realm of the Elderlings series, but my tolerance for Hobb's bad instincts has been eroded and I'll be quick to drop further installments that flirt with this horrific toxicity.
