I decided to read this because I am trying to narrow down my physical TBR. This book (and it's sequel) has been sitting on my bookshelf for 10 years!! A whole decade. So I decided it was time to read it.

First things first, I did in fact finish this book in a single sitting. So, I was obviously entertained to some extent. It was kind of exciting, and the flirting between Maxon and America was a little cute.

Until the end that is. I despise love triangles, and I know that love triangles and "I'm not like other girls" were the two blueprints for a successful YA novel around the time this was published. But that doesn't mean I have to enjoy them. This one also doesn't seem to be done very well, and it seems super predictable. At the very least, if you are going to write a love triangle, can it be shocking and surprising. Make her fall in love with the king. Or the cook. I'm not judging.

Also, I know they aren't technically "cheating" on each other, this is like a Bachelor situation-type-deal, but it felt that way. And my heart shriveled up when another girl mentioned that Maxon had kissed her. How dare he say that he would send all the other girls home for her, but kiss them? My little romantic heart barely made it through that.

Next, this was very "pick-me" and "I'm not like other girls" coded. Which doesn't make this book bad... it just makes it like every other YA in the early 2010's. So, you know, not super exciting.

But with all of that being said, I do want to learn more about the rebels and what kind of vaccine Aspen received that made him bigger and stronger in a matter of days. So I will continue to the next book, if not for interest then for the sake of getting it off of my physical TBR.

I enjoyed this book. Sometimes I did roll my eyes at the main character on her decision making, but let's be clear here, I don't know how it will add to the plotline later. I'm ready to face the rest of this series full on.

First I would like to say that the edition says Hardcover but I didn't read it like that. I got to read a free downloaded version.

Anyway.. I think the book is great I just have a problem where I want America to choose where he heart lies quickly because I want to know so badly who she is going to choose.

However the book itself is well written, Really nicely told and I loved it. I read it and loved it. It is a good book 'cause first I think it grabs your attention
second: some people like Romance and there is a little bit of that
thirdly: Because some people like to read about royalty.

Me I haven't read the rest of the series except the second book called: The Elite,

Make sure you go check out that review.
Also I have made some questions to the book so you can answer them if you want 'cause I want to know your opinions.
And leave a comment below on if you liked the book or not.

The epitomy of 2010s tropey YA romance. Going through a nostalgic phase and kind of expected to have more problems with it than I did. Never read this series before and fully expected the 'not like other girls' and love triangle before going in, which softened my annoyance.
Read it in 1 day which says a lot.
