Great story! It seemed like the author had gone out of their way to avoid using the same lore as seems to be common; not entirely sure it makes sense to me, but it was done well and internally consistent. Definitely a series I'm going to have to read more of when I can!

Interesting beginning this a series.
It’s not often that there is a female alpha who is also a pack enforcer.
I loved that her mate shows up at an inconvenient time and he just wants to eat his damn mushrooms.
These two are really broken outcasts who do not fit in their worlds in a traditional way.
I like a good switch from n a book and this one has some surprises.
There are some holes in the story but not enough to ruin the series.

Going back over my words, it sounds so much worse than it was.
I've read 'So much worse!'
This was just so ... bland and boring ... and when I was expecting this sassy comedy ... a real let-down.
****

I really wanted to like this!
Wasn't too bad to start, though in the back of my mind was that if the genders were reversed, I'd be screaming blue-murder.
But I reminded myself it was tongue in cheek, with a touch of humour.

Problem was, wasn't finding any humour, just kinda weak, sad attempts.
Still the story line started out interesting ... until you included the sex every few pages, with juvenile language that you expect from those with no real attachments or respect.
They never made love, had sex, got it on, or simply had a really good time. Nope, they wanted to f*ck, referred to in their heads and out loud as such. Kinda like teenagers or cliche biker talk.
No romance needed, they had insta-mate thing, that made each fall madly in love, no thought, no brain required. Not just insta-sexual attraction/lust, noooo, this was luuuve!

I liked the other characters, even enjoyed the world they were building. But couldn't figure out the point behind the story?
Couldn't be a romance, as all the heavy work was done, couldn't be an erotica, again, no doubts, no work required, no sexual tension. Besides, they were just f*cking.

Previous background issues were mentioned, but no clues, plot twists, or build-ups included.
Did have one connected action scene at the end, but not enough to make all the f*ing scenes worth it..
Kinda a relief it turned out so much shorter than expected.
The end of the book was filled with 3 previews and promotional info.
