Phoebe and her brother Connor are responsible for getting her late father's house ready to be sold. Phoebe is currently working on her dissertation on true crime and has is vivid obsession with serial killers. Once she gets to her childhood home, she meets the neighbour, Sam, who she suspects might be a serial killer. Or is he her future lover?
I am not sure what I expected from this book, but I know I did expect a little more serial killer plot. But basically, this book is, it is a basic romance about a woman who is obsessed with serial killers and she cannot shut up about it. This would be a good book when you are in need of a palette cleanser, but if you are looking for that mystery, this is not it. It did have the right length I wanted for this book, it had all the information it needed to contain, but it also wasn't anything special.

- I get being skeptical of the guy who showed up in front of you at 2am but there is no need to be rude to him for no reason when he moved your heavy furniture and mowed your lawn and has been nothing but nice to you even though you are deep into true crime
- Being mad at your friend after making a joke about suicide and her reacting to it is kinda crazy, if anything she was worried and being s good friend
- The joke about having a fat girl play you in the movie of your life for representation sake is kinda out of pocket considering the girl on the cover isn’t plus size
- Never mind I think she is plus size they just don’t make it seem like it on the cover
- Inviting yourself over to someones party is so embarrassing but I guess it kinda worked out for her
- Admitting that you think someone is a serial killer to their face is so crazy cause like what if he was
- Him asking how long her hair is and to see it was kinda weird I’m not gonna lie
- I do love that he just helps her out and does things with her without expectation of anything, the pie, the cat, the painting. Love.
- I think Sam is cool, I hate that his ex broke up with him cause she though he was uncool
- I just feel like the two of them have no chemistry and they are kissing and stuff but it just feels so sudden and like it doesn’t have any passion behind it
- Her rejecting being with him in front of her brother made me so sad for Sam, he really likes her
- I liked the scene between them at the fireworks actually getting together
- I also loved that she is trying with him slowly and when she had to do work she went over to his place and told him not to bother her and she listened
- Helping her find the cat was so cute I’m obsessed. Before, during, and after.
- The flashmob proposal is crazy
- I kinda feel for the fact that you could tell that Phoebe was not into the whole idea of a relationship and was hesitant and then he goes and says he wants to marry her, kinda too much honestly
- I love that she drove all the way back to where Sam was because she not only realized that she wanted to be with him but she also realized that pushing people away isn’t the answer and she wanted the support of them at her dissertation and stuff
- I do think it was unrealistic that she just decided to change her mind and realize that she was in love with Sam but I guess that’s none of my business
- I’m glad it worked out even though I just feel like the two of them lacked chemistry

I want my time back… and my money. It sounded soooooo promising ..
i’m honestly a little shocked by how much i enjoyed this! i had been kind of avoiding it/content with not reading it because i’m really not much of a fan of true crime, whatever that even means. it makes me feel itchy and gross most of the time, and this novel essentially centering around it as a genre made me wonder if we’d be a good fit. but after reading and enjoying The Art of Catching Feelings i thought i’d give it a try. and i’m glad i did! i think the best outcome i can hope for when engaging with stories about true crime is recognizing the sheer, staggering levels of humanity in every single thing, for better or for worse. in this novel, phoebe walsh is so painfully human— painfully only because i was taken aback frequently by how much of myself i saw in her inner monologues, in her way she moves around the world, in the way she assumes the world thinks about her in return. i love phoebe and her ultimate acceptance of a happy ending. i was repeatedly reminded of a quote by sarah marshall of the you’re wrong about podcast, “…if we stop trying to assess everyone we see as a potential threat, then what kind of connection is available to us? or how can we take up space in the world if we’re not busy with that?” like….woof. and i really loved sam as her love interest: quiet and shy and gentle and lovely and thoughtful and vulnerable and and and. one of my favorite love interests i’ve spent time with this year. also the acknowledgments were so great! i love reading the acknowledgments! and hooray x100 to more romcoms being set in florida, my eternal agenda! ok off to relisten to the true crime with emma berquist episode of you’re wrong about! bye!
