Sadly this wasn't my favorite read, but it still was a good story. It was well written and kept me mostly interested. Maybe it was the circumstances hitting too close to home or a character similar to me but otherwise it was a great love story with all the bumps to make it believable. đź’•

Considering it took me a month and a half to read this book, it makes sense why it wasn't a favorite. But it happens. Not all books hit for me. But I'm glad I read it!

was very much expecting this book to have more to do with serial killers but that is also my fault for reading a romance after many murder mysteries

ending kind of made me emo af in a good way and i miss my girlfriend

I wasn't really sure what to expect before I started this book. I was interested based on the amazing cover art and the true crime element. Turns out, this book was fantastic! It was funny, it was sweet, and it had some great true crime references! I could relate to Phoebe so much - the pie scene is absolutely something I would do! I really appreciated the body positivity, too.

It does have some spice! I'd rate it one 🌶. There are two descriptive - but not overly drawn out - scenes.

DID NOT FINISH

Just couldn’t get into it. Too slow. Seemed written for much younger audience.

Once again, I totally judged a book by its cover—or in this case, its title—and went in with the completely wrong idea. I thought I was diving into a steamy thriller with serial killers lurking in the background, but turns out… not at all! Yes, there are references to true crime, but only because the main character is working on her dissertation about how true crime shows up in modern literature. The serial killer mentions are academic or metaphorical at best—more about her research and the way she relates those themes to the emotional ups and downs in her own life.

But honestly? Once I let go of my (very dramatic) expectations, I had a great time with this book. It’s really a story about healing, self-discovery, and learning to love again after some heavy family trauma. There’s a solid emotional core, a sweet and spicy romance, and just the right balance of wit and heart. The title may have led me astray, but the writing kept me hooked—and now I’m definitely planning to read more from this author!
