After the incredible let down that was Kingdom of the Feared, I was a bit apprehensive to read this book. I was, however, pleasantly surprised. I loved the juxtaposition between the Regency England-esque human realm and the underworld. Where I think the Kingdom trilogy found itself awkwardly straddling between YA and adult, Throne of the Fallen is undoubtedly an adult novel, and suitably spicy to match.

šŸŒ¶ļøšŸŒ¶ļø very spicy
It did have a good plot and the s*x scenes were adding to the plot. I just wasnā€™t ready for how descriptive it was as I didnā€™t usually read that spice level in books

Throne of the Fallen is the adult fantasy romance debut from Kerri Maniscalco. Itā€™s Prince Envyā€™s story from the Kingdom of the Wicked world. Along with his romantic lead, Camilla Antonius. This was a fun steamy book that expanded on a fan favorite Prince of Hellā€™s story and Iā€™m looking forward to the other two Princeā€™s stories (particularly Pride and Lucia!).

The amount of tabs I have in this book is ridiculous!!! I just LOOOOVE Camilla & Envy!! And the sass!!! Camilla is so sassy, I love it!! She gives it right back to Envy, beating him at his own games! šŸ’š
The twists & turns in this book were incredible too! Some I saw coming, some that took me completely by surprise!
And all the references from Kingdom Of The Wicked! And the jealousy between Envy & Camilla is on point! I canā€™t get enough of it! I already want to reread it!
In the words of Kerri herself..
"For those who canā€™t help falling for the villain and love a sinfully wicked fairy tale, this one is for you."

I adore the Kingdom of the Wicked series, and especially loved the (under)world-building that trilogy set up. The demon princes are a wild time, and diving into Envyā€™s book was such a ride. This book is definitely more adult than YA, but I think also keeps a lot of the whimsy and fun that only YA fantasy worlds can weave.

This is a behemoth of a book, but the plot and pacing are great. Pauses to breathe where it needs to, and doesnā€™t waste time info dumping or describing something if itā€™s not necessary to keep the story going. Iā€™m intrigued by literally every new side character whoā€™s introduced and cameos from the KotW trilogy feel organic and serve to further the story and Envyā€™s character.

I was hooked into the romance from the first barbs exchanged between these two. I laughed out loud more than once. I would fold so fast in a relationship like this, I canā€™t take the slightest HINT of a tease, but omg what FUN to read these two just ruthlessly go after each other haha. Games on games were played, and I loved it. Envy is nothing if not a mastermind and so it takes someone with just as cunning a brain and more than enough strength of character to match that.

Iā€™d give this book only a 1.5 - 2 on the spice scale, but look I read A LOT of spice so my scale might be skewed šŸ˜….

The reveal of Camillaā€™s true character was really the only hiccup here for me. In any book, I really do despise a conflict that could have been resolved or addressed at literally any point in time during the book with a conversation, and so for about 10 pages at the 90% mark I wanted to just scream non stop. You can guess fairly early on what Camilla is, but there was such richness to her back story, I think I would have been more impacted by it if there had been more breadcrumbs along the way. No time is wasted wrapping it up though, and the resolution is believable.

I really enjoyed the book, Camilla is a great protagonist and her and Envyā€˜s dynamic was amazing.
