Ms. Joshi is a strong writer. I would've loved to read snippets of Malik and Nimmi's conversations sprinkled throughout as I believe it would have tied the book together. Their emotional bond is murky and readers are left wondering why they like each other. (At least, I was).
Other than that, the plot and characters were great! Ms. Joshi spoils us with colorful descriptions of food, herbs, jewelry, cosmetics, and silk. They are so beautiful!

This is a sequel to The Henna Artist. And while you could read it as a stand-alone story, it's much better if you've read the first. I loved that this sequel was a decade later.
Moderate: Alcohol, Blood, Infidelity, Injury/Injury detail, Medical content, Medical trauma, Sexual content, and Violence
Minor: Infertility
