*Did not finish- I simply wasn’t vibing anymore*
This book hits hard with the manipulation, physical and mental abuse and homophobia from her parents. I feel for anyone who lives this and has to hear this kind of bigotry all the time.
I liked the cultural aspects of the book.

This book is a difficult read, but so easy at the same time...its concisely uplifting but represents so well the issues facing the LGBT+ community, and the way that changes for brown people.

While I enjoyed reading this book, it's one of those where I'm not obsessed with it. I found most of the characters realistic since I didn't always completely support their actions but it I didn't actively hate them. I am grateful about the things I'd learn from this book though.

Great book, but for mature teens. If you want to skip the graphic stuff, then just don't read the grandmother's journal entries. I didn't, and understood the story just fine. Other than the content issues (which really add to the gritty plot) it is an emotional book that is desperate yet hopeful. A truly moving (and harrowing) way of portraying being a lesbian within an unsupportive (downright hateful, actually) family.

well that was a JOURNEY. first of all, rukhsana had some shitty ass friends. i think they were able to redeem themselves slightly by the end of the book and were at least willing to understand what she had gone through but DANG.

also this book was INTENSE for a YA book...made me quite sad. at times i felt like the pacing was too fast but i guess that did help me get through the book at a decent rate.
